Chief Executive Officer of EPE
Thiago Barral was appointed the President of the Energy Research Office (EPE) on February 1, 2019. He has been at EPE since 2007. Prior to his appointment as President of EPE, Thiago was Director of Economic and Energy and Environmental Studies from February 2018 to January 2019. Among other duties, he was responsible for studies in energy demand, distributed generation, energy efficiency, emission reduction targets for the energy industry, georeferenced base management, long-term energy and technology prospects. He previously served as the Head of the Department of Project Studies and Development where he coordinated the process of technical qualification and calculation of the price-ceiling in the electricity auctions, the supply studies for the isolated systems, and the feasibility studies of hydropower projects. At the same department, he served as Deputy Superintendent from September 2013 to September 2016. Thiago holds a degree in Civil Engineering from UFJF, a Master in Water Resources and Environment from COPPE / UFRJ and a post-graduate degree in Public Administration from FGV-RJ.

Carlos holds a BSc in Economics from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a MSc degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Technician Professionalizing Course in Photography from SENAC. He holds several other post-graduate degrees, including: Economic Situation Analysis; Public Administration; Business Administration; Valuation; Project Finance; Evaluation on External Costs of Human Health and Environmental Impacts for Nuclear Power and Other Energy Sources; Taxation Law; Photography; Photography Basics and Beyond: From Smartphone to DSLR. He has working experience in many public and private institutions such as the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and Eletrobras. He was a consultant of a number of institutions such as IADB, Cepel and PNUD. He was the coordinator of the Brazilian programs on energy efficiency, renewable energy and was a director advisor of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (2004-2005) and of the Boarding Room of Investments of the Presidency of Brazil (2005-2008). He is in EPE since 2008, where he was an advisor of the CEO and, since 2016, he is Chief-of-staff of the CEO's cabinet of EPE, carrying out strategic functions on the company's management and technical activities acting as a Chief Operating Officer. Since Mars 2018, he coordinates EPE’ Strategic Planning. He was a board member of Centrais Elétricas de Rondônia (CERON) (2005-2008) and, since September 2017, member of the board of administrators of the National System Operator (ONS).

Maura Xerfan has been Head of Press and Public Relations at EPE since April 2017. Currently attending a Master's Degree in Humanity and Culture by UNIGRANRIO - Social Media Project - March, 2017. Before joining the master's degree, she studied: MBA in Distance Education - UNICARIOCA - RJ - 2013. MBA in Marketing - Polytechnic School - UFRJ - RJ - 2003 and MBA in Business Management - Universidade Cândido Mendes - RJ - 1997. Bachelor of Business Administration at Universidade Cândido Mendes. She also is an university lecturer of Journalism, Marketing and Advertising courses since 1996. Prior to EPE, she worked as a social media consultant at her own Company and worked in the Digital Marketing agency - M2BR as an advertising and social media manager.

General Secretary
Alessandra Santos is a Production Engineer from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Business Administrator and Post-graduate in Public Administration at Estácio de Sá University. She is Secretary-General of the EPE, advising and articulating among the statutory bodies of the Governance system, organizing meetings and formalizing legal documents, among other duties. She is a member of the Eligibility Committee and participates in the Working Group (GT) for the Implementation of the EPE Integrity Program. Created and was the Company's Ombudsman for a year and a half, with certification in Ombudsman's Office by the National School of Public Administration (ENAP) and several courses related to the Law on Access to Information, Ombudsman's Office, Attendance and Ethics. She was a member of the Standing Committee on Gender, Race and Diversity Issues of MME and Related Companies, created and coordinated the Internal Committee on Gender, Race and Diversity and participated in the Organizational Climate GT. She worked at the Permanent Committee for the Evaluation of Confidential Documents (CPADS), the Open Data Committee, the Documentation Center Project (CEDOC - Normative System, Process Management, Document Management and Protocol) and the Legal Consultancy of the EPE (CONJUR).
Technical Advisor II
Graduated in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Systems and Computation, at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), with a Master's Degree in Computing from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Specialization in Management of Information Security and Communications at the University of Brasilia and certificate in ITIL Foundation. In the private sector acted as a technician and manager of information technology. Performed the following tasks: Support Management of network and infrastructure teams; Coordination of several projects to renew the technological infrastructure; Managing and monitoring project for implementation of ERP of the Rm Systems, at national level, in several branches of a business group. Has also worked as a teacher of higher education teaching courses such as Computer Networks I, Computer Networks II, Introduction to Information Technology I, Introduction to Computers and Architecture of computers I and II, Security and Systems Audit and Information Security in courses of accounting, and administration at graduate level. In the public initiative, has been working in the Energy Research Company (EPE) since January 2008 and was allocated in the Information Technology and Communications area until December 2016, where he was responsible for supporting the Management of the area in the implementation of Governance in Information Technology, in the use of the best practices library for IT service management (ITIL) and in the implementation of Information and Communication Security Management in the company. He is an effective member of the Strategic Committee for Governance, Risks and Internal Controls, in the Executive Committee for Governance, Risks and Internal Controls, in the Strategic Management Executive Committee and in the Information Technology and Communications Committee, all of EPE.
