Giovani is an economist by Federal Fluminense University/UFF and he holds a MSc and a DSc degrees in Energy Planning by the Graduate School of Engineering of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – COPPE/UFRJ. Expertise in oil & gas geopolitics and prices, gas infrastructure planning, energy modelling and forecast, as well as planning, policy and regulation of energy sector. He has worked for several institutions in the energy area: US Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory – LBNL, as a visiting scholar; National Petroleum Agency of Brazil – ANP, as coordinator of strategic studies; Energy Planning Program at COPPE/UFRJ, as visiting professor in energy economics field; MBA in Energy Business, as professor and coordinator. He has also collaborated to the International Atomic Energy Agency – IAEA as an ad hoc international expert in energy sustainable development and energy modelling issues. In Dec, 2006, he joined the Energy Research Office – EPE, holding various management positions within the Directory of Oil, Gas and Biofuels. Currently, he is the Head of the Natural Gas and Biofuels department in EPE. Also, he is author of several publications on energy issues and reviewer for international energy journals.

Currently, is Head of Energy and Economic Studies in Energy Research Office (EPE), a Public Company linked to Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), being in charge of studies concerning long term energy sector perspectives, energy efficiency, energy demand forecasts, distributed energy resources assessment, electricity and natural gas market analysis as well as Brazilian energy statistics

Mrs. Almeida holds a Doctoral Degree in Ecology from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, a Master´s Degree from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and a Bachelor´s Degree from Universidade Federal de Uberlândia.
Since she joined EPE, her main contributions involved coordination of several socio-environmental studies required for hydroelectric power plants licensing process; management of workgroups on environmental costs of hydroelectric power plants and transmission lines; Equator Principles and Ecosystem Services applied in energy planning.
In October 2017, Mrs. Almeida was nominated Head of Environment Department. Nowadays she also manages the environmental studies for mid and long-term energy planning and the environmental group activities that subsidize the energy auctions.
She is also a member of the Executive Committee on Governance, Risks, Integrity and Internal Controls of EPE.
