Decarbonization Scenarios for E&P - In compliance with CNPE Resolution No. 8/2024

In line with the guidelines set forth in Resolution No. 8/2024 of Brazil’s National Energy Policy Council (CNPE), EPE has developed studies outlining decarbonization scenarios for oil and natural gas exploration and production (E&P) activities. The results are presented through a series of technical and communication products tailored to different audiences.

These studies aim to reduce information asymmetry around emission reduction alternatives in the sector and to support the identification of effective short-, medium-, and long-term strategies that reflect the specific characteristics of the oil and gas industry.

The resulting products include:

  • Final Report “Decarbonization Scenarios for E&P”: the main document consolidating all discussions held throughout the process, with a comprehensive analysis of decarbonization scenarios and the impacts of proposed measures.

  • Slide Deck “Proposals to promote the decarbonization of oil and gas E&P activities”: a summarized presentation of key findings from the Final Report, with a deeper explanation of the methodology used in scenario development, offering technical insights into the analyses.

  • Fact Sheet “Emissions reduction technologies in oil & gas E&P”: a visual summary highlighting the decarbonization context in E&P, main emission sources and activities, and potential mitigation technologies.

  • Executive Summary: a visual overview of the study’s main findings.
