The Energy Potential of Agricultural and Livestock Residues in Brazil

February 10th, 2026

The Fact Sheet series on the Energy Potential of Agricultural and Livestock Residues in Brazil, developed by EPE, presents an assessment of the technical and economic potential of rural residues for electricity generation and fuel substitution through biogas and biomethane.

The publication shows the availability of agricultural and livestock residues and their potential for sustainable energy use.

Also, it presents the results of spatially explicit analyses carried out using the SIEnergia platform, highlighting the potential for micro and mini distributed electricity generation and for replacing part of diesel and gasoline consumption with biomethane.

Finally, the Fact Sheets discuss key challenges and opportunities for scaling up these solutions, as well as their contribution to reducing fuel imports, strengthening energy security, and supporting Brazil's energy transition.
