EPE publishes new fact sheets on inequality in residential energy consumption in Brazil and around the world

The 2023 Energy Efficiency Atlas had its special chapter dedicated to the Residential Sector. Resulted from a cooperation between the Energy Research Company (EPE) and the International Energy Agency (IEA), this chapter presents an international comparison of residential energy consumption patterns and a national analysis focused on revealing the inequalities of energy consumption by income class. The analysis aims to support the design and evaluation of public policies related to the eradication of energy poverty, the promotion of energy efficiency and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Energy Research Office (EPE) is now publishing two fact sheets with extracts of the main messages from the 2023 Energy Efficiency Atlas's special chapter.

Fact Sheet International Comparison of Residential Energy Consumption

The Fact Sheet International Comparison of Residential Energy Consumption aims to discuss energy consumption patterns in the Brazilian residential sector through an international comparison from different perspectives – development level, energy sources and energy end-uses. The idea is thought this international comparison identifying possible evidence of energy poverty and potential for energy efficiency in Brazil.

Fact Sheet Residential Energy Consumption by Income Class

The Fact Sheet Residential Energy Consumption by Income Class aims to discuss the inequality of the energy consumption patterns in the Brazilian residential sector by income class. In this fact sheet, EPE seeks to expand the discussion brought in its Fact Sheet Residential Electricity Consumption by Income Class to other energy sources consumed in the residential sector. The main objective of this fact sheet is to identify possible evidence of energy poverty and energy efficiency potentials in households with different income levels.
