Brazil celebrates its trajectory as a global reference in biofuels, revisiting milestones such as the Proálcool program, created in 1975, and highlighting current policies that place the country at the forefront of the energy transition. With over five decades of ethanol production, Brazil ranks second worldwide, while the National Program for the Production and Use of Biodiesel (PNPB), launched in 2004, promotes the productive inclusion of family farming, diversification of raw materials, and regional development, also including biodiesel in Brazilian energy matrix.
The publication reveals significant impacts: more than 1.2 billion tons of CO₂ emissions avoided, thousands of direct jobs created, and approximately US$405 billion saved from fossil fuel imports. It also presents policies such as RenovaBio, Fuel of the Future, and the MOVER Program, which expand decarbonization targets and encourage clean technologies. With a focus on new low-emission fuels such as SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), green diesel, and hydrogen, Brazil reaffirms its commitment to a fair energy transition aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
