Webinar on Energy Expansion Plan: Perpectives for Renewables in Brazil

On March 1st, The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), in partnership with the Energy Research Office (EPE) and the UK Department for International Trade (DIT), successfully held the webinar "Energy Expansion Plan (PDE 2026): Perspectives for Renewables in Brazil”

The online event was opened with the presentation "The work of Apex-Brazil on the attraction of foreign investments in renewables". Then, Reuben Aitken, Prosperity Counsellor  from the British Consulate, presented an overview of the Renewable Industry in UK.

Luiz Augusto Barroso, the CEO of EPE, explained very briefly the institutional role of EPE in the Brazilian energy industry and also presented the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE 2026).

Barroso explained that the PDE is a yearly released publication that indicates the energy industry expansion in the ten-year horizon, according to the Government's perspectives. In particular, he highlighted that the PDE aims at informing investors in their business investment decisions through an integrated vision and analysis of items such as the market space for new investments, scenarios for the future combination of technology, supply and demand balance, long-term marginal cost, among others.

The PDE 2026 studies indicate an expansion of 73 GW of new installed capacity in the SIN up to 2026. Almost half of this added capacity is related to non-hydro renewable sources (wind, solar, biomass).
